our PASSION

Horticulture - like cookery, fashion or any cultural form - is a rich abundance of styles. I wanted to create a company inspired by this breadth, and use it to inform each project it undertook

We believe that our gardens and the wider landscape we live in are a reflections of who we are. For centuries people have gazed out at their environments, considered their place within it and then expressed this feeling through the art of gardening.

This relationship has expressed itself differently throughout civilised history. When landscapes were threatening or were inhospitable humankind sought seclusion and shelter. During the early-modern period landowners turned their estates into grand expressions of myth-making, filling them with antiquities.

…But now people want to see something different.

We believe that in the twenty-first century what people want most of all is to connect - to others and to the landscape. People wish to observe the changing seasons, to understand their local palette of biodiversity, to tread lightly upon the earth and relax in the company of friends and family.

This is where Modica Gardens can help. We take the time to talk with you, listening to your hopes and ideas about your garden. We combine this with a focus on the space itself, what are the objective facts - soil, sunlight, microclimates, existing plants and habitats. And finally we look at the wider context: how does this garden sit within the landscape? Does it have a long, interesting history - or is it a blank canvas?

All of this analysis lets us design, build and maintain your garden in a way that is personal to you. No two people are alike, so why should our gardens be any different? This philosophy doesn’t just apply to our garden design service - but to all of our work. Whether it’s a two-hour hedge prune, or a multi-year maintenance contract, we work in full appreciation of your visions and goals.

What’s our end goal? We’ve found that our style of working, putting communication first and foremost, leads clients to a fuller appreciation of their gardens. Horticulture and Garden Design can seem like lofty disciplines, but at the end of the day they’re just tools to deliver beautiful, living spaces which allow us to connect with the important things in life.

We offer a wide range of horticultural services, so get in touch today to see how we can help with your project.
